Sub-region
Founded in 2000 after much campaigning by local producers, Orcia DOC must be made from at least 60% Sangiovese. Varietal Sangiovese wines must contain at least 90%.
Orcia's DOC was born in the year 2000. It was the result of long and arduous process spearheaded by the likes of Roberto Mascellione of Poggio al Vento, and Antonio Rovito of Valdorcia Terre Senesi. The objective was to recognise the potential of Sangiovese in this particular corner of Tuscany, while at the same time acknowledging its traditions of blending.
