Sub-region
The San Gimignano DOC covers red wine production around the Tuscan town of San Gimignano. The white wines, for which the area is famous, are produced from Vernaccia and utilise the DOCG Vernaccia di San Gimignano. This separate DOC is used for red wines from Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, and Syrah.
The medieval town of San Gimignano is the perfect place to relax with a few glasses of the local white Vernaccia. Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo are full of little wine shops and bars, as well as some excellent independent restaurants. Most places will carry the wines of local producers.
