History
The history of Beauregard begins in the 12th century with the Knights Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem, who left their mark through the Templar Cross that remains the estate’s emblem. Although the property’s roots are medieval, the first building was not constructed until five centuries later, before being replaced by the current Girondine Carthusian château during the Napoleonic period. Surrounded by a moat and flanked by two notable dovecotes, the estate commands views over a landscaped park designed by Victor Louis, architect of Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre. In the mid-18th century, Beauregard shifted from mixed farming to viticulture, laying the foundations for its modern reputation as a leading Pomerol producer.
