Aloxe Corton AOC is best known for its Grand Cru vineyards, but it also includes 14 Premier Cru climats that offer a more approachable and often earlier-drinking expression of the village’s robust red wines. These sites, such as Les Vercots, Les Valozières, and Les Guérets, are typically located on the lower slopes surrounding the Corton hill and feature clay-limestone soils with good drainage. Premier Cru wines from Aloxe Corton tend to be firmly structured and dark-fruited, with a touch less power than the Grand Crus but plenty of character and ageing potential.
